Got Yourself A Job
Thoughts from today…
1) I am still obsessed with Nas. I love Nas. He’s just about all I can listen to.
2) I really like my job. My first day was interesting and… pleasurably overwhelming.
3) What do you do when you really love so much about someone and you know that that person would be there in an emergency but you just don’t feel you are getting appreciated the way you should?
4) I love animals! Oreo is the strangest little dog. He really does look like a baby deer, a cat, and a dog all at the same time. I know that sounds hideous, but he’s really cute, I swear.
5) The medical system in this country is so beyond messed up I could not even begin to describe it in this entire blog let alone one sentence.
6) Trying your best is just necessary. All the time.
So… If you were making classroom rules for at-risk students, which would you choose?

I feel unqualified to answer the final question, as I have *no* experience in the field whatsoever and any advice I could give would likely bear horrific consequences. That being said, I believe I will skip the grand question and merely comment on the first six points instead.
(1) I really, really, REALLY love his first album, along with his current drive and commitment to his craft. That being said, I think his new CD lacks the production finesse of his best work. I want to like it, I feel bad for not being into it, but alas…. you can’t just put out ONE masterpiece and live in the shadow of it for the rest of your career. Or maybe you can.
(2) I think that’s to be expected. You have a very interesting and productive job.
(3) Assess the situation and act accordingly. If you haven’t tried anything, perhaps view things with a fresh lens. if you’ve tried everything, consider the specific reasons why you feel under-appreciated and discuss changes that you’d like (or, rather, need) to see. If you STILL aren’t seeing results, consider the notion that it’s supposedly “impossible” to change a person and ask yourself if you can live with the issues that bother you. If you can, find new ways to deal with them and move on. If not, well– cross that bridge when you come to it.
(4) I love animals too. Smokey still wants to know if you have any friends who are into gray men. Pets bring me joy.
(5) I’m rapidly discovering that there’s no such thing as a ‘perfect’ medical system no matter where you go or who you talk to. Yes it’s awful, yes it’s in serious need of tremendous reform. I
(6) I think you’ve summed up the antithesis of the contemporary ‘American way’ in a very concise manner. Nevertheless, that’s an excellent standard to set for oneself.
